Start with the vocabulary

Planets, signs, houses, and aspects do different jobs in astrology. You do not have to memorize every symbol before a reading. Start by learning the pieces, one at a time.

Planets and signs

In symbolic interpretation, a planet is associated with a theme or function, while a sign offers a style of expression. Mercury, for example, is often interpreted through communication; the sign is part of how that theme is explored.

Houses and aspects

Houses divide the chart into areas of life. Aspects describe angular relationships between chart points, which astrologers interpret as interactions between themes. Both belong in the wider context of the chart, rather than as isolated verdicts.

Make space for your own experience

An interpretation gives you language to consider, not a fixed identity. Ask how a theme connects with your real experience, where it does not fit, and what new question it opens. You do not need to understand everything on the first pass.
